Salesmen, generally speaking, don’t seem to be highly esteemed. There aresome exceptional sales people and they stand out; think Steve Jobs of Apple, and Bill Gates of Microsoft. No one needed or wanted a home computer before these guys showed up. Today no one can live without one, or two, or if you are like me, three. If salesmen in general leave a bad taste in your mouth, then automobile salesmen are the snake’s belly in the wagonwheel rut of lowness. Snake oil salesmen are a rung higher on the food chain than car salesmen.
Here is the car salesman stereotype: Over weight, balding, with thinning, slicked over hair to give the appearance of a do. Loud sports jacket, tie knotted like a shoelace, and lunch stains on the wrinkled, dingy shirt. I’ve never met this guy, but I’ve seen him on Hawaii Five-0, Chips, and Streets of San Francisco at least a couple of hundred times.
If this is the world’s image of automotive salesmen, what is the world’s image of Jesus Christ. Would you say that the world places Jesus above or below a car salesman? And part two of this is “How does that make you, as a follower of Christ, feel?
The world is deceived.
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Joh 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Joh 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Once in awhile you will hear people talk about the “unpardonable sin.” Some believe it is blaspheming the name of God. Some believe it is attributing the work of The Holy Spirit to Satan. The unpardonable sin is what we read in John 3:18. Not believing that Jesus is Savior and Lord, the only begotten of The Father. And for that you are condemned already.
The good news is: Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost.
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now am found. Was blind, but now I see.
What’s really amazing: The whole world knows this song, or at least the first verse, but it doesn’t really connect them to eternity.
I sang it for years and years but I was blind to the truth.
So to catch all the cows and put them in the barn let me just say the best salesman does not wear a plaid jacket, or a red suit with a tail, horns, and a pitchfork. He comes disguised as an angel of light to sell you on the idea that he doesn’t exist. That there is no devil, no hell, no eternal fire, no angels, no God, no justice.
Don’t believe the lie.
Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Rom 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Rom 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen
