Having just celebrated Thanksgiving we were treated to a cornucopia of drawings of pilgrims, Indians, blunderbusses and buckled shoes. All drawings hand colored and given in love from a child. Perhaps your child or Grandchild saw to it that it had prominence on the front of the refrigerator? Doesn’t really matter to you that the blunderbuss is yellow, or that not all the coloring is within the lines. It’s a treasure, and a keepsake. How could anyone look into the beaming eyes of that tiny artist and not just fall in love? So to show our love we take them to their local fast food outlet and feed them every child’s favorite – chicken nuggets. Why don’t we just go out to the garage and sweep up the sawdust, shavings, cat litter, and the oil spill. You could feed this combination to them and be assured that it would be more nutritionally sound and a whole lot less detrimental to their physical well being. I’m not going to tell you what is in those fast food treats. You are a big person and can do your own research.
Why is it that kids today are so highly medicated? I don’t remember a single kid in all of my many years of public education having to take any drugs.(and it took me 5 years to get through High School) I did know one or two that carried asthma inhalers. There were some kids that were a little “high strung”, but usually a trip to the principal’s office and a call to the parents worked wonders on any repetitive behavioral problems. Listen, I am not medically or psychologically trained. Learned in the simple science of human observation, ie school of hard knocks. I believe kids today are pretty much the same as kids from my era. So, I asks myself, what has changed? Let me give you my short list:
- Food: used to be home grown or local. No frozen, or processed, or fast food.
- Family: One Dad and One Mom. Close Grandparents. Not two Dads, a few Moms, and who knows who their Grandparents are.
- Fun: Kick the can, hide-and-go-seek, jump rope, hopscotch. Not video games of Death, Destruction or Goth Barbie.
- Music: Roy Rodgers, Patti Page, Patsy Cline. Not Kiss, not Marilyn Manson, and not Rap.
- Politically Correctness: Christmas not Winter Break.
We are living in a sad time when every vestige of wholesomeness and Christian values has been systematically stripped from our society. Compare an episode of the Lone Ranger with any current popular television show. Just try creating a show for today’s audience – where the second banana is an Indian, and his name is Tonto. (And every single time he goes to town he gets beat up.)
Let me just get off this soapbox and give you a single verse of scripture. Consider what is being said, and consider it not as it applies, and has applied to Israel. Consider how it applies to you and your children and Grandchildren.
This is from the Old Testament. The Children were seperated by tribes and made to stand on either of two mountains to hear the “Blessing and the Cursings.” If they followed and obeyed God’s plan they would receive the blessings – else they would receive the cursings. I think you will be able to figure out what category this one falls in:
And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone. Deuteronomy 28:64
And if you have a concordance look up that word “scatter”.
